"Proteios", project initiated at  CEMA Center for Experimental Media Art / Srishti College of Art, Design and Technology in cooperation with National Center for Biological Sciences in Bangalore, India, in summer 2009. The project “Proteois” is a continuation of my earlier work “Life Matters” realized with the support of  the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in New Delhi , India .

“Space is  the way of existence of life, and life is the way of existence of space". - these words by Prof. Stefan Semotiuk became a motto of the project. (Stefan Semotiuk „Filozoficzne Aspekty Przestrzeni” w „Przestrzeń w nauce współczesnej, UMCS, Lublin , 1998)

There are many definitions of life and their content depends on a scientific specialization, the world-view or context of reflection. I choose this one because, in a sense, it summarizes the scope of my artistic research.

The title of the project recalls the tradition of the early Greek philosophy that initiated the search for arche - primary cause and fundamental principle of the nature, physis, the world in Western culture. (Similarly, Far Eastern philosophy introduced notions of karma and sjunjata)

The Greek word πρωτεος (proteios), means "primary", "in the lead". It is nothing strange then, that the core of this word can be found in the name of a proton – elementary particle and the base of atomic nucleus, as well as in the name of a protein, the “basic brick of life” responsible for all cellular (life) processes.

"Proteios-resume" is an interactive, multi-channel piece which structure is based on a labyrinth of atomic bonds in a protein molecule. It will offer a  poetic journey through the matter of time and space, provoking reflections on the mystery of life that we are part of. Proteios-resume” is the work in progress. It aims is to interconnect all the works under the scope of “Proteios”. Its evolving construction is based on the “balls & sticks” model. Complete works are represented here as balls(atoms) joined by short animation, text etc in form of tunnels (sticks) linking them together. The interactive, complex structure will allow the viewer for creating individual paths and ways of experience.
